Take This Job… and Love It!

As I am writing this blog, I am thanking God for my work and the opportunity to serve Him through it.

Let’s hear what He says in Col. 3:22 – “Servants (workers), do what you are told by your earthly masters. And don’t do just the minimum that will get you by.  Do your best.  Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you will get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Mast you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant (worker) who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being Christian doesn’t cover up bad work.”

How does God feel about work and my/our work? Well He shows us immediately in Genesis. God is a worker, and He finds great pleasure in it.  He made Heaven, Earth, and us. God gave us work BEFORE sin, by making Adam and Eve gardeners. The result of sin can be that our work is more difficult, but God plans it to help us become more like Christ.

Jesus says in John 5:17, “My Father is always at work to his very day, and I, too, am working.

Do we understand that we can have a bigger impact for the Kingdom in our work than our ministers? They are mostly interacting with believers, but we come in contact with many more unbelievers. Remember always that my job and my responsibilities are an act of worship and partnership with God as He accomplishes His purposes in the world.

Don’t consistently wish your workday away. If you do this you are missing many blessings God has for you. Work deepens our character and our relationship with God. By changing the way we think and our attitude toward that of Christ, we learn God’s will for us. When we trust God even if things don’t work out as we think they should, we see God’s power even more. As proven in the furnace in Daniel 3, God is awesomely ABLE!

What do you do if your job is uninspiring? Then read this scripture about what God has to say about work. And work with renewed sincerity and reverence for the Lord.  Let this be your motivation. Whatever you are doing right now, work at it with all your heart because you are really working for God, not for men. When you work on your character and values, you change the condition of and grow your heart and life and following generations and eternity. You are storing your treasures in Heaven

What does the worker gain from his toil?  I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in his toil – this is the gift of God.” – Ecclesiastes 3:9,12-13

Store your treasures in Heaven, where they will not be destroyed.” – Matthew 6:19

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” – Proverbs 4:23

I pray we all continue to take this to and grow our hearts all our lives, until we see Jesus’ shining face and bow down before Him! Thank you for your great work or our awesome Lord!

Hugs and blessings, and check out my minister’s 6 week sermon series on this topic at www.tpcc.org.
